The short version

Knowme Travel ("Knowme", "we") keeps your travel preferences so you can share them with the places you choose. A share link carries your name and the preferences you answered, minus anything you untick for that link. Allergies, diet, accessibility needs and material sensitivities go on a link only after you agree. We don't sell your personal information.

What we store

  • Your account: your email address and a scrambled form of your password (we can't read it).
  • Your profile: your name, and anything you add in Settings › About you: date of birth, gender, home airport, ZIP code, height, weight and units. Also your contact phone and email, if you add them.
  • Your preferences: your Must Knows and your answers for Lodging, Restaurants and Bars, Air travel, Car services and Car rental, including brands, memberships and drinks you describe.
  • Your reviews: the places you review, your answers, notes and up to three photos per review.
  • Your share links: who each is for, its dates, what you left off, and when it ends.
  • Travel advisors: who you've allowed to manage your profile, and whose profiles you manage.
  • Messages you send us through the contact form on our About page: your name, email, organization and message.
  • Look-up logs: when you search for a place or a brand, or use the drink builder, we log what was asked and by which account, so we can run the service and pay for it.

When you use Places and your phone allows it, we use your location to find places near you. It's used for that search, not saved to your profile.

What we share, and when

  • Share links. When you make a link, anyone who has it can open the page, with no login. It shows your first and last name, any trip dates you add, and the preferences you answered, minus anything you untick for that link. Your phone or email appears only if you picked that way to be reached. A link ends after 30 days (or three days after your trip), on the date you set, or when you stop it, whichever comes first.
  • Shared reviews. If you share a review, anyone with that link can read it until you stop sharing it.
  • Photos. Photos you add to a review are shown to other travelers on that place, with your first name, last initial and the upload date. Other travelers can report a photo; we may remove it.
  • Travel advisors. Someone you invite to manage your profile can see and change your preferences and reviews. They can't see your password or change your sign-in email.
  • AI assistants you connect. If you connect an assistant to Knowme (through its MCP connection), it can read and update your preferences and reviews, and make share links, on your behalf until you disconnect it.
  • When the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.

Health details

Food allergies, dietary needs, accessibility needs and material sensitivities can say something about your health. They go on a share link only after you agree, once, when you make a link or in Settings › Health details. A travel advisor can't agree for you. Until you do, they're left off every link.

What never leaves your account

Your date of birth, height and weight never go on a share link or to a provider. Your gender, home airport and ZIP code don't either. Some of this does reach our support desk; see Zendesk below.

Who helps us run Knowme

These companies process data for us, only to run Knowme:

  • Amazon Web Services stores your data (in the United States), sends our email, and stores review photos in a private bucket.
  • Google Places gives us facts and photos about places. When you search for a place, Google receives what you typed and, if your phone allows it, your approximate area. It doesn't receive your name or account.
  • Anthropic (Claude) looks up brands, places, room types and contact emails we don't know yet, and breaks a drink you describe into its parts. It receives what you typed, not your name or account.
  • Zendesk runs our support desk and the chat on the Help page. To help you, it holds your name, email, phone, home airport, ZIP code, gender, your age (not your date of birth) and your preferences.

Selling data

We don't sell your personal information. Knowme makes money by giving providers (hotels, airlines, restaurants and bars, car services, car rental) and suppliers (brands) totals across many travelers: what's asked for, by city, property and category, and whether it was delivered. Those totals don't identify you. If we ever want to share anything that does, beyond the links you make yourself, we'll ask you first.

This website

The pages at knowmetravel.com use no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts. Fonts and photos come from our own server. When you sign in, the app keeps your session in your browser's storage so you stay signed in. The Help page loads Zendesk's chat, which sets its own cookies.

How long we keep it

  • Your account, profile, preferences and reviews: until you delete them or ask us to delete your account.
  • A signed-in session: 30 days.
  • Look-up logs: 30 days. We keep daily totals with no account attached.
  • Contact-form messages: as long as we need them to answer you.

Your choices and rights

  • Change or remove any preference, review or photo in the app, any time.
  • Untick anything on a link, or stop a link, from Share.
  • Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account by emailing hello@knowmetravel.com from your sign-in address. When we delete your account we delete your profile, preferences, reviews, photos and share links, and your record at Zendesk.

If you live in California, you have the right to know what we collect, to correct and delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don't sell or share it for advertising. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.

Children

Knowme is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

When this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects what we share, we'll tell you in the app or by email first.
